Bali and Australia
Spring Break in Bali and Australia - April 2017
When planning a trip to Bali, most people do 1 week around Bali, and then head to the Gili Islands. Since we had just come back from the #1 Beach in the world in the Philippines, I was looking for somewhere else to go. I searched flights 'anywhere' from Bali and saw 'Cairns' pop up. With it only being a 4 hour flight I booked our trip to Australia!
We stayed 3 nights in Ubud and 3 nights in Canggu, Bali. We explored the rice terraces, coffee plantation, waterfalls, and beaches. Bali is similar to Thailand with the laid back attitude and tropical surroundings. We woke up at 4am to leave for the hike to Mt. Batur. We hiked through the dark with the sky lit up with stars and climbed this rocky trail to the top just in time for sunrise. It was incredible and I will forever remember the feeling of that hike.
In Cairns we did a day trip snorkeling on the Great Barrier Reef where we were lucky enough to see 4 turtles! The next day we went to Cape Tribulation to hike around, walk through the rain forest and saw the island were Jeff Erwin was stung by a sting ray. Following that we went on a train ride to the Daintree Rainforest and took a gondola over the rain forest back to Cairns. We even got to pet wallabies and hold a koala!
Cairns made us feel like we were home. We went to a few wineries that reminded us of Virginia. It was nice to get a break from the hustle and bustle of Asia and be on a different continent! You can see our YouTube video here.
These next few pictures are from out Mt. Batur hike. We got up at 4am to climb up this volcano. It was hard work and worth it! The hike down was much more difficult due to the steepness and sliding stones/dirt.
Now on to Australia!
Cairns, Australia
After our Great Barrier Reef tour!
On the train ride to Korunda with one mission: to hold a koala bear!
Sky tram back down to Cairns.
Next, we took a day trip to Fitzroy Island.
